This Is NOT a Top 10 List to blog success!

Want to break the record for blog failure? Just put these into practice!

1. Agree to disagree

Always on the defensive or attacking your readers when they make comments that you don’t agree with? If you are trying to chase your readers away, that would be a good move — go ahead tell them how stupid they really are.

2. Commenting for comments sake

Give your readers a little more credit, will ya! Say something constructive or be quiet. Readers want interaction and quality feedback, so don’t patronize them. This, by the way, can discourage visitors from leaving comments. What’s the point?

3. Update new content whenever you feel like it

Update new content to blogs whenever you feel like

Trust me, no one is reading your posts anyway, especially if you’re not updating on a regular basis. Keep it up and you’ll be the only reader – make that you and your mom, so try not to get on Mom’s bad side.

4. Don’t EVER respond to comments!

This is a sure way to make your readers feel ignored! Don’t respond to comments and you’ll have no comments to respond to – if you know what I mean.

5. Get upset when people don’t visit your blog

Unfortunately, this happens maybe not regularly, but I have read posts where bloggers took the time to write a post especially for their readers, pretty much telling them how disappointed they were at them! What?! One particular blogger was very upset at her readers for not visiting her site regularly and commenting on her articles. This is a big NO in ‘blog world’. By the way she was more focused on making money and maintaining a certain amount of traffic to her site – readers were not on her top list of priority. Do the same and see what happens.

6. Do not promote your blog

I repeat “Do not promote your blog” keep it all to yourself. If you want to have a failed blog, just don’t promote it. Don’t visit other blogs and leave comments and make sure there are no incoming links to your site.

7. Be inconsistent

Don’t care about traffic? Then be inconsistent – don’t update regularly, don’t provide quality content, just don’t do anything. You’ll definitely keep social media votes coming and they’ll keep adding new pages to search engine indexes! Psych!

8. Quit

If things aren’t going too well for you and you are feeling a bit discouraged, what the heck, just quit. You’re a quitter anyway, why stop now?

9. Leave stupid comments

A sure way to get zero traffic to your site is to leave insulting comments on other blogs or not leaving much of a comment, then saying ‘hey, visit my blog’. Sit back and watch your stats go through the roof!

As promised, this is not the top 10 list, so I’ll keep it at the top 9 list for now. I’ll be anxiously waiting to hear from you so please leave your comments below ;)
*Cheers*

The Basic Requirements of a Successful WebSite

As a search engine optimizer and web content developer I have run across clients that have their websites designed and then come to me to get their content optimized and the sites marketed online. At this point I do the analysis, suggest the on page changes and offer to have some design changes made. I run into a wall. I mean literally, clients refuse to change one picture of the website, despite the suggestions I make.

Two months into the optimization, the website is ranking on the first page, getting the traffic but surprise, surprise there are no sales, leads or conversions. The client is enraged, refuses to listen to reason and states SEO is a waste of time. I am frustrated but ask once more, just let me make some design changes and then cancel. They agree. Within a month the statistics show the client is getting leads/sales.

Your Website as a Marketing Tool

Webmasters have to understand that while the website is the doorway to their business, it is also a marketing tool. Do not make your business website a work of art. Make it a business front.

Consider this: You are a doctor. You have a clinic and your receptionist is a 12 year old, what impression would your patients have? Again, you are a lawyer and your receptionist is a dumb blond, easy on the eye but light on the brains, would your clients trust your judgment?

What your website should be doing:

  • The website is the doorway to the business but must lead your visitors to take action.
  • When visitors land on your website they should immediately see the service you are offering and the action you want them to take.
  • The content should be inverted pyramid form and should have call to action buttons.
  • Your highest selling product should be highlighted and then details to other products given.

I am a member of a gym in Princeton, NJ which is absolutely gorgeous. It has great showers a wonderful pool and is never overtly crowded. However, the website it has is pathetic. I am serious, it is so bad that web designers that are members at this gym actually go up to the management and offer to do it up for free.

If I had not visited the gym in person, I would never have become a member! Yet, the owner believes that the website is gorgeous and refuses to change it. Their membership is half what it could be and yet, the management refuses to redo the membership!

Making sure your website does not fail:

Do not create a website that is so pretty it becomes useless.

  • Go easy on the information and easy on the images
  • Remember the average Internet user is interested in fast information and quick action.
  • Make a professional website, get professional content, hire an SEO.
  • Watch the sales/leads go up!

Crowdsourcing and Small Business Websites

Definition of Crowdsourcing:
Here is how Wikipedia defines Crowdsourcing. ‘It is a neologistic compound of Crowd and Outsourcing for the act of taking tasks traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, and outsourcing them to a group of people or community, through an “open call” to a large group of people (a crowd) asking for contributions.’

I am not a great believer of Wikipedia. It has great information but the validity of the information is always up to an individual’s interpretation. So why did I quote it here, well come on! It is a great example of croowdsourcing information. It’s an open forum for people to come in add their thought’s albeit with some editing.

Small Business Owners and Crowdsourcing
The one complaint every would-be entrepreneur and small business owner has is that they never have the cash flow to actively create a brand. Who can afford a logo, a website, development all customized for ones business?

Well all of you small business owners can take a deep breath and stop your complaints. That excuse went out the window with the advent of crowdsourcing. Now, if you want to have a brand identity it is easy. Name your price, describe your project and wait for the identity to be created.

Here are some companies that can be used by small business owners to create their brand and launch themselves in the Internet world. After that the success of your business depends on your own prowess.

Business Brand: LogoDesignGuru.com
An old name in the logo design world, logodesignguru.com has been creating award winning logos for a little less than a decade-or maybe more. It recently changed its business strategy and began to crowdsourcing its services. Now, instead of buying a custom logo by choosing their packages you simply sign up, place your project into their pool of projects and see the designs come in. You pay what you can afford and still get a great design. However, always remember the best will always cost you more!

The services they offer include: Logo Design, Web page, Brochure, or Stationery Design which includes Free Business Cards!

Website and Development: CrowdSpring.com
Now you have your logo you need a website. Another great site is crowdspring.com that works the same way as logodesignguru.com. You set up your project, state what you can afford and choose the options you like best. You can keep commenting and giving feedback until you are ready to choose.

The services they offer include: Logo Design, Web page, Brochure, or Stationery Design, Web content and more.

Crowdsourcing –The Best Option
While there are tens of sites that crowdsource out there, these are two of the top ones. They have all that is required to help a small business owner get online. The sites offer a group of workers that have collective intelligence i.e. they can work together, while working independently. They are constantly challenged and thus more creative. The group is diverse, qualified and just the right size.

Crowdsourcing is the best option for start up and small business who at times struggle to compete online.
